Let's learn about our feet, the bodies foundation. I think we all know how important a good foundation is!!!
I have had many clients say don't worry about my feet when receiving a massage.
My response has always been why, where do you go or what do you do without your feet?
Since we are bipedal, our feet are our bodies' foundation for movement-we need the for almost everything we do.
Whether you are walking🚶♂️, running 🏃♀️ squatting, lifting,or climbing, the higher your feet function, the better you will perform.
Our feet are also our primary sensory connection with the ground, constantly relaying information that helps us respond intelligently to our environment.
So, taking care of and strengthening our feet is important.
Notice in the image how the babies' feet (natural) the toes are all spread out with natural arches allowing for optimal balance and shock absorption.
The adult feet( normal) are often weak with cramped toes, flat arches, and conditions like bunions, in-grown toenails, athletes feet, plantar fasciitis, blisters, hammer toe and heel spurs just to name a few.
The narrow toe box will cramp the toes, the positive heel will reduce the calf and ankle mobility, and the rigid body and toe spring will stiffen the mid-foot and toe joints and cushioning will drastically reduce the sensory and the mechanical input from the environment our feet need in order to thrive.
Follow along as I share more about our feet!
